October Support Meeting
S.O.S…. Save Our Sanity…. Save Our Homeschool…. Sharing Our (Best) Tips… However you look at it, our October support meeting is going to be a helpful – and fun- evening for everyone. Be sure to mark your calendars and come join us on October 9. The meeting will be another round table discussion, which continues to be a popular event here at AHSL. We plan to cover some interesting topics this month: “How do I organize all this STUFF?” “I don’t have room for a designated school room.” “How do I teach subjects I am unfamiliar with?” “How do I evaluate my kid’s work?” “What do I need to do differently as we transition to high school?” “Favorite and Least liked curriculum,” “Why is a support group necessary?” and many others. No question will be too trivial, and we have a wealth of experience within our AHSL members. As you can see, we’ll be discussing questions that many in our group have pondered. WE WANT YOU to come if you are able. Seasoned homeschoolers can offer a lot of insight to those of us with more questions than answers. New members to AHSL have a super opportunity to get some answers to those niggling questions as well as meet some new friends. And maybe best of all, Melissa has some great games (with prizes!) planned. Our evening meetings are open to the public, so this is a perfect time to invite your friends who are not AHSL members to come visit us.

When: Tuesday, October 9, 6-8 PM

April Monthly Support Meeting

Are you thinking of making changes in your curriculum next school year? Do you wonder what other AHSL members are using? Do you want to encourage your friends? Then consider coming to our April support meeting. (April 10th at 7:00 PM at Evangelical Methodist Church) We are busy lining up a panel of fellow AHSL members to share with the group the curriculum they are using in their homes. They will share what they like about the curriculum and what they wish they could change about it. We are hoping to hear about several of the different approaches to homeschooling at this meeting:  Traditional/classroom, Charlotte Mason, Classical, Unit Studies,  Eclectic. Come join us on April 10th for this fun event and for a glimpse into the school days of some of our AHSL friends.  Childcare will be provided for this meeting for a suggested donation of $1.00 per child.  This is a perfect opportunity to bring a friend to an AHSL event! Bring a friend who is considering homeschooling - or bring someone who may be interested in finding out more about AHSL.

March Support meeting

Have you been wondering what curriculum you should be using next year? What is best for your child’s learning style—or for your family? Then you need to plan on coming to AHSL’s support group meeting 3/13/18! Do you already know what you will be using next year? Why not come out and encourage some of us who have questions?
We are excited to tell you that “The Curriculum Doctors” from the Virginia Homeschool Convention (HEAV) will be our guests tomorrow! Vikki and Krystal help Cherrie Moore at the homeschool bookstore in Virginia Beach—Moore Expressions. They will be sharing about learning styles and types of curriculum that fit those styles. They will also be available for questions. You don’t want to miss this event!
This is a great opportunity to bring a friend who may be interested in homeschooling or who may be interested in AHSL.
When you come, please bring a snack and drink to share. Child care is offered for a suggested donation of $1 per child. (Also, please remind your children that they are either to be in the childcare room or with you at all times.)
This was an amazing meeting last year, and everyone can benefit from the wisdom of “The Curriculum Doctors.”
What: March Monthly Support Meeting

February Monthly Meeting 2/13

The AHSL coordination team would like to encourage everyone to come to our February support group meeting. This month it will be on February 13th at 7 o’clock at Evangelical Methodist Church. These evenings are fun, informative, and a great way to receive (or give) encouragement in all of our homeschooling journeys.

This month our topic is TESTING! This is the topic that causes a lot of anxiety for parent/teachers and students alike. Tonia and Kathy will be sharing what is required of homeschoolers, what our options are, and how to acquire the necessary materials. Of course, we will do our best to answer any questions you may have about testing – or any other questions you may have.

The evening meetings are a perfect occasion to invite friends who are interested in homeschooling or who may already homeschool but aren’t part of AHSL. Child care will be offered. (A $1.00 donation per child is suggested.) As always, there will be a time of fellowship afterwards. Please bring a snack and drink to share.
In a nutshell:
What: Monthly meeting: Testing
